Black Flower
Belgium
Nathan Daems - saxophone
Jon Birdsong - cornet
Filip Vandebril - bass
Karel Cuelenaere - organ, clavinet
Simon Segers - drums
This "Black Flower" sprouts from Brussels into the universe. With the "Magma" of their sixth album, the five-piece jazz hybrid, led by the flute-playing saxophonist Nathan Daems, breaks away from their original breeding ground of Ethiojazz and Afrobeat - and grows expressively psychedelic blossoms. Sounds hypnotic, seductive and originally oriental, known to be admired from the likes of Gilles Peterson on to the progressive world music scene.
