A thousand swirling, rustling leaves falling onto a fertile ground of sound, sometimes eerily calm, often exciting and wild. Originally conceived as an encounter between Japanese pianist Masahiko Satoh and Belgian-Greek guitarist Giotis Damianidis, Thousand Leaves now takes an unexpected new turn: Italian pianist Augusto Pirodda steps in for Satoh. Together with Damianidis, a guitar avant-gardist who grew up with punk, played for years in the band of Fela Kuti’s guitarist and celebrates free jazz, Pirodda will explore the project’s open and adventurous musical landscape. Audiences can expect a spontaneous dialogue full of improvisation, surprises and new possibilities.
