Mario Steidl and Daniela Neumayer in interview
Saalfelden. Festival instead of Weekender: From August 16 to 22, the "International Jazzfestival Saalfelden" will take place with about 60 concerts. A conversation with Daniela Neumayer (production manager) and artistic director Mario Steidl about the planning of a series of events in pandemic times. And what will change for the visitors this year.
Mario Steidl: Definitely to the Jazzfestival 2019. And we are continuing to develop the concept: The MainStage will be played again, there will again be many concerts with free admissions as well as a new location. Only on the city square in front of the Congress nothing is going to take place this year.
Daniela Neumayer: The town square has many entrances, there is a bank and several stores - we cannot control compliance with the 3-G rule there. Because of the Corona pandemic, all festival visitors have to prove that they have been tested, recovered or vaccinated. And this has to be checked by us as organizers. Instead of the city square, the offer in the city park will be increased this year. Bars and food trucks will be set up there, covered by the beautiful Skyliner, which was already on the town square in 2019.
Daniela Neumayer: Like in 2019, so about 1000 seats in the Congress and about 200 in the Nexus. And the presale for these personalized tickets on our homepage is already running at:
Daniela Neumayer: At the moment, it is not yet clear whether the Corona regulation will allow it. But if it is allowed, we will of course try to make it possible.
Daniela Neumayer: Not in principle, but we have re-tailored and simplified the categories in the Congress. There are now two price categories, a large and a small hall.
Daniela Neumayer: The free concerts will be accessible only with prior registration. You can register quickly and easily on our website and will then receive a QR code by email, which you can show at all entrances and exits. A special service for visitors who have already bought tickets for paid concerts on Mainstage, Shortcuts or We Hike Jazz: this QR code is also valid for all free concerts!
Mario Steidl: Of course! But no restrictions in connection with Corona. But the normal limits that existed before the pandemic. When a location is full, it's full.
Mario Steidl: We want to offer people at home and tourists the opportunity to discover the beautiful corners of Saalfelden and Leogang as early as Monday - and listen to music at the same time. In addition, we offer to warm up in the evening at the Nexus for the actual festival weekend.
Mario Steidl: The old Otto Gruber Hall on Mittergasse between Congress and Nexus, which has not been used for 30 years, is being used for the first time. Where agricultural machinery was once produced, up to 300 people can now listen to concerts of the International Jazzfestival.
Mario Steidl: The former district court is no longer available to us because this building is being used for other purposes.
Daniela Neumayer: We have to work out a separate safety and hygiene concept for each venue at great expense. That's why it's more practical for us if the locations can be played several times. But that is not possible at the Ranch.
Daniela Neumayer: I am not aware of any serious restrictions at present. Entry is possible without any problems for vaccinated, recovered and tested persons from Germany, for example. At least according to the current state of affairs.
Mario Steidl: Not yet. Let's see what the next few weeks will bring.
Mario Steidl: The app is already online. Every visitor should definitely download it to his or her smartphone, because it provides continuous information about news and changes. That way, you're always up to date.
Mario Steidl: Not from us at Ritzensee. Due to the current Corona situation and the strict hygiene measures, this is simply not manageable in terms of personnel. But there are nice alternatives in the area!
Mario Steidl: No, we are happy that the concerts can finally be attended live again!
Daniela Neumayer and Mario Steidl at the same time: That won't happen! (Mario laughs, Daniela is horrified). In all seriousness: In the event of a cancellation, the ticket price will of course be refunded.
