In January, 44-year-old pianist Kris Davis from Canada, who also teaches at the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, presented her new trio with bassist Robert Hurst and drummer Johnathan Blake at the Village Vanguard. Afterwards they recorded Davis' 25th album “Run The Gauntlet”, music of which can now be experienced live in Saalfelden even before its release on her own label Pyroclastic. “Piano trio formats have been the most challenging thing for me, just because there’s so much tradition and history around it”, Davis once said.
