“The jazz world can get stuck in a battle between the head and the heart”, wrote Giovanni Russonello in The New York Times, “but rarely do you find an improviser like Patricia Brennan [whose] music seems to exist in a realm outside the body, but stays loaded with feeling.” With the surprising (and hopefully not only one-time) debut of this trio with Dutch bassist Jort Terwijn and drum wizard Christian Lillinger the Mexican vibraphonist and marimba player, a fixture on New York's avant-garde jazz scene for several years, reflects on her work with the "7 Poets Trio" (with Tomeka Reid and Tomas Fujiwara), her first two albums as a leader, and, of course, her roots, as Brennan says, "Some of my favorite bands growing up were fiercely, rhythmically driven.”
