When Myra Melford, “a gifted descendant of the high-density Cecil Taylor school”,
on piano and Allison Miller, "one of the most promising drummers in the game", meet Dayna Stephens, a much lauded "downbeat rising star" on the saxophone, who is always looking for singable discords, and Scott Colley, arguably the most-recorded and anyway a "First Call" bassist of our time, it is, according to Melford, "like throwing a spark at tinder - everything immediately bursts into flames". This top-class American quartet, whose explosive power might have given it the name "Boom Tic Boom" before, presents the exciting compositions and concepts of the two leaders in Saalfelden.
