Argentine pianist Leo Genovese, known for recordings with Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jack DeJohnette and Wayne Shorter, wants to "be like water, because water is a musical thing". The 44-year-old also says: "Music is air that moves". On at least ten albums under his own name, the son of a classical pianist flies and flows elegantly from the modern jazz of his Berklee teachers Danilo Perez and Joanne Brackeen to music from Iran, Ethiopia, Gambia and Morocco via Rancheros and Bud Powell. In a trio with his compatriot Demian Cabaud on bass, who has also been heard with Joe Lovano and Lee Konitz, and the drummer Jeff Williams, who played with Stan Getz, Lee Konitz, Paul Bley, Elber Galarza and Dave Liebman, Genovese also completes the triumvirate of the elements.
