Saalfelden Leogang celebrates "3 Days of Jazz" again after a two-year break

Last weekend, from 27 - 29 January 2023, the sixth "3 Days of Jazz" festival took place in the Saalfelden Leogang region.

A total of nine concerts were played at three different locations. On Friday and Saturday, three concerts each took place at the Kunsthaus Nexus Saalfelden, one at the Stöcklalm in Leogang (free of charge) and on Sunday two more at the Mining and Gothic Museum, also in Leogang. The „3 Days of Jazz“ Festival is a small and charming festival in winter in the middle of Salzburg’s mountains, which, at the start of the new year, already makes you look forward to the bigger summer edition “Jazzfestival Saalfelden”.

As a kick-off the film "INSIDE SCOFIELD" was shown at the Kunsthaus Nexus on Thursday, 26 January 2023, to set the mood for the festival weekend. This is an entertaining documentary about the composer, musician and family man John Scofield. On Friday, the "3 Days of Jazz" were officially opened. The first concert was played by the Norwegian-Austrian band Per "BASS VIKING" Mathisen's Saxophone Inferno. The Norwegian thrilled the audience together with the three Austrians Fabian Rucker, Gerald Preinfalk and Herbert Pirker.

This year's festival also featured international musicians from France, the USA, Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Among them was the French musician Louis Sclavis, who presented the new album "Les Cadences Du Monde" with his band. Another well-known name is singer and composer Andreas Schaerer, who opened the second day at Kunsthaus Nexus with the six-piece formation "Hildegard lernt fliegen". The Swiss will return to Saalfelden as artist in residence at this year's 43rd edition in the summer.
The Dutch band "Spinifex" closed the festival on Saturday with a heavy dose of impro, punk rock, but also ancient rhythms from Turkish and Indian music cultures. Other highlights were the American formation "Scatter The Atoms That Remain" and the Spanish-British duo Jordina Millà and Barry Guy under the title "String Fables". The balance was also pleasing: the occupancy rate for the concerts in the Kunsthaus Nexus was 90% on Friday and 85% on Saturday.

The concerts in the Leogang Mining and Gothic Museum were already completely sold out several weeks before the festival – the venerable building provided the perfect setting for this special matinee on the last day of the concert. In the morning, the Austrian formation "You promised me Poems" played passionate music from jazz, folk, chamber music, world and much more. The final performance of the festival belonged to the duo „SIGMUN“, formed by the Austrian Florian Sighartner and the Spanish artist Carles Muñoz Camarero.

At the Stöcklalm on the Asitz - in the middle of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn - a concert by the local band „TJ & The Groove Boots“ took place on Saturday afternoon with free admission. They thrilled the audience with lots of groove and handmade sounds in the best rock'n'roll style.
