40th International Jazzfestival 2019
83 concerts - 60 of them free!
We completely overhauled the Saalfelden Jazz Festival for its 40th anniversary by creating various new stages and building a festival center on the town square in front of the Congress building. This center includes a concert stage and draws visitors with its enticing culinary concept. We also added a new stage in Saalfelden’s city park where visitors can partake of our musical offerings in a lush green space. Artists-in-residence Maja Osojnik and Lukas König staged their projects in the empty space of Saalfelden’s old district court as well as at the Fuchs bookbinding shop. Other highlights included numerous flash mobs in unusual places, for which artist Lukas Kranzelbinder spontaneously joined forces with other musicians. The ranch concert—where the festival was inaugurated in 1978—was re-recorded for the first time. At the ranch, Wolfgang Puschnig and the Sketchbook Quartet performed "Fulsome X" to a sold-out crowd on Wednesday. Due to heavy rains, the newly designed concert hike with Lukas Kranzelbinder, Jim Black, and other great musicians had to be cut short, but was nonetheless enthusiastically received.
